Elgin Sloppy Stage 2 Grind LS Camshaft

If you’re building your own custom of classic, the odds are good you’ve come across the legendary LS series of engines. These incredibly stout and durable engines are often used in customs due to their usability and ease of install. That said, sometimes you’re looking for a bit more out of your engine. The Elgin Sloppy Stage 2 Grind LS Camshaft is designed to balance street usability with that custom high-horsepower choppy idle sound! This camshaft is a great option for both Naturally aspirated and Turbocharged applications and offers a bump in top-end power without sacrificing low-end torque and pull.

Our team here at Karl’s is well-versed in upgraded camshafts, click here to check out some of our other camshaft and crankshaft offerings. We’ve found this to be one of the most popular Stage 2 Camshaft offerings for 5.3L LS turbo setups thanks to that awesome choppy sound coupled with those awesome turbo blowoff noises. This camshaft requires a 3-bolt cam gear used in earlier LS engines. This camshaft also requires upgraded valve springs for more lift.

What’s Included

The cam profile features .585-inch lobe lift with a split pattern duration of 283-degrees intake and 286 degrees exhaust. This equates to duration at .050-inch lift of 228/230. A lobe separation angle (LSA) of 112 degrees is EFI and carb friendly but may not create sufficient vacuum for accessories like power brake boosters and air conditioning.  Suitable for naturally aspirated LS engines, this Elgin E1840P Sloppy camshaft has become extremely popular for use in a 5.3 LS turbo build. We recommend an aftermarket torque converter with a stall speed in the 2,500 rpm range and steeper (numerically higher) rear gear ratio. This cam’s power comes on in the mid-range and top end without sacrificing that all important low end torque that gets you moving when the light turns green.

Important Notes

  • This Sloppy Stage 2 Grind LS Camshaft (.585/.585) is deal for creating a choppy idle sound and is a great choice for street driven LS V8 engines like the 4.8 or 5.3
