Featured Classics At Karl Kustoms

At Karl Kustoms, we offer parts, service, and accessories for your favorite brands, but we’re also die-hard gearheads who love to check out other people’s rides. That’s why we’re featuring this series of videos on some of the hottest cars we saw during last year’s Sounds of Summer Nights.

1959 Cadillac

The 1959 Cadillac was a milestone for the company, featuring acres of chrome and fins that seem to stretch on forever. But if you think this one looks longer than most, you’re not wrong. It started out as a four-door flattop before the owner converted it into a two-door and extended the trunk 30 inches, giving this Caddy and El Camino style look but with a full trunk.

In addition to the extensive sheet metal work, which included taking a section out of the roof and moving the rear window forward, this Caddy is motivated by a GM LS3 V8 engine and six-speed automatic. We can’t help but be impressed with the “Cad-El-Camino” style… or is it an “El-Cadillac?” Either way, it’s uniquely awesome!

1932 Ford Coupe

The 1932 Ford Coupe or Deuce Coupe is an icon of the hot rod world. It was the car of choice for early hot rodders because of the lightweight body that’s easy to modify, including stuffing a V8 engine behind the headlights. It’s so popular the Beach Boys sang about it, ZZ Top featured it on their album covers, and it played a major part in the movie “American Graffiti.”

This Deuce Coupe features a V8 with a blower motor to provide added horsepower. The interior has been redone and updated. But what may be the coolest accessory is the review mirror which includes forward and rearward-facing cameras. The cameras provide a much better view outside the car and make a nice feature to compliment the chopped top.

1965 Shelby Coupe

Carroll Shelby made very few Cobra Daytona coupes which is why we’re glad a company in South Africa started building replicas. This particular car is 19 years old and wears the traditional Shelby Blue or Guardsman Blue with the white “skunk” stripes. Power comes from a Roush 402 Racing Motor, which helped it reach a 206 mph top speed on the Nurburgring in Germany.

The owner also brought along a Cobra roadster. It’s powered by a 427 cubic inch V8, just like the original Cobras. But best of all, it gives the owner the thrill of driving a powerful, lightweight open-air roadster.

1971 GMC Jimmy

The GMC Jimmy is the sister to the original Chevrolet Blazer but is no less a looker, especially with the top off. Really there is nothing quite like sitting up high in a convertible truck, which may be why the owner spent 20 years looking for a vehicle like this. With the exception of the wheels and four-inch lift, it’s basically stock, even under the hood, which features the classic 350 Small Block topped by a Holley carburetor.
