Central Iowa Cruising With Carl Moyer

Carl isn’t the only auto enthusiast in the area. His cruising sessions never fail to uncover the most unique owners and vehicles around.

Over the summer, Carl spent a lot of time cruising. In that time he made several stops to check out some of the finest local automobiles and hear the stories from the owners.

Here’s a collection of some of our favorite Cruising with Carl moments from this year.

Cruising With Carl – Corvette Collection

Steve is the proud owner of five Corvettes. His vehicles span multiple generations and each have a unique story. Steve traded his 1990 Corvette for a C5. Several years later he bought back the 1990 vehicle which is currently in the Karl Kustoms shop.

Steve also shares how he bought one of his Corvettes with only four seconds to go on an eBay auction. At first, he thought he had entered too late and it wasn’t meant to be. But soon after, he was calling his buddies saying: “I don’t know what I just did…”.

What he had done was expand his already impressive and beautiful collection.

Cruising With Carl – 1967 Chevelle

Next, we spotlight the 1967 Chevelle SS. The Karl Kustoms customer, also named Carl, shares that this particular vehicle is his 7th Chevelle!

It houses the 427 Big-Block engine, a 4-speed manual transmission, and factory air.

Carl once wrecked on the way to a car show, but Karl Kustoms helped to repair the vehicle and restore it to its former glory.

“That big block just gives you chills!” says Carl. We couldn’t agree more.

Cruising With Carl – Late Model Camaros

Last, Carl visits a 2013 Z01 Convertible in Crystal Red and a 2018 Z01 Convertible in Garnet Red.

“I always wanted a Z01. It was just a matter of finding one,” says Bill, owner of the Camaros.

Bill’s 2013 Camaro he found online. He made the trip to Dallas, Texas, for the purchase and immediately got to work. Bill tore apart the practically new Camaro and installed Hushmat. On top of the Hushmat, the car also received upgraded LED lighting.

But perhaps the best thing going for the 2015 model is that it was signed by Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer of the Camaro. Oppenheiser signed the car in 2015 at a Camaro show in Kentucky.

Bill claims he’s always been a car guy, noting that his first car was a ’67 Mustang, followed by a Monte Carlo.

As for the 2018 Bill has upgraded the cam, headers, lifters, and ported & polished the cylinders.

“This has the largest cam I could get in it for an automatic without going to a new stall converter.”
